SBU-BNL Research Initiatives
Seed Grant 2008
The University's role as
a partner in operating Brookhaven National Laboratory suggests further strengthening
the programmatic links between our two institutions. In order to encourage broad
initiatives for new SBU-BNL research alliances or scholarship on aspects of
science and society, President Kenny is calling for proposals for seed support.
The Office of the Vice President for Brookhaven Affairs will handle proposals
and oversee decisions on awards. Recommendations for awards are made by an ad-hoc
committee of SBU faculty, therefore successful awards will be written in a way
that suggest the significance of the work to scientists who are not necessarily
experts in the field.
For this tenth year, grants
of up to $25k may be awarded (note that these proposals do not have overhead
charges).
Proposals will be judged on the following criteria:
- Proposal is written in a way that suggests the significance of the work to scientists who are not necessarily experts in the field;
- Proposal describes how this seed support is likely to lead to fully developed applications to standard agencies supporting research;
Or in fields where external support is less likely, how the work builds on Stony Brook University’s academic priorities;- Proposal describes specific and meaningful collaborations with BNL personnel;
- Proposal contains valuable and significant science.
