By Car
Take the Long Island Expressway (LIE 495) east bound from Manhattan or Queens. Stay on the LIE until
Exit 62.
Once you exit, you will see two signs,
one for Stony Brook northbound and another for Blue Point southbound. You will want to stay to the left
and exit through the Stony Brook exit. After you come off the exit ramp, you should be on
North 97 (Nicolls Road). In 8 1/2 miles, you will pass
JCT 347. Continue down the same road. Drive pass the first Stony Brook entrance. You will want to
enter through the second entrance marked
Main Entrance. Once you go through that entrance, you will see a security booth. Make a right and
follow the signs to the visitor's parking lot located behind H-Quad. After your vehicle is parked, walk
towards the south side of campus, past the Student Union. The Bookstore is located directly opposite the
Student Union.
By Train
You can get to Stony Brook by taking the Port Jefferson line on the Long Island Railroad. The trains are available from
Penn Station, Manhattan or Sutphin Blvd, Jamaica. Depending on the time you take the train, you may be asked to transfer
at either Huntington or Hicksville. Pay attention to the conductor when he annouces the transfer to Port Jefferson. The Stony Brook
stop is the second to last stop on the Port Jefferson line. Once you get off the train, you can take a Stony Brook campus bus
to your intended destination. Stony Brook bus drivers are more than welcome to help get you to your destination quickly and safely.
A ticket to Stony Brook from Penn Station runs about $7.25 during off peak hours. A ticket from Jamaica would be around $5.75 during off
peak hours. During peak hours, an additional charge of $2.00 will be added. Check the
Long Island Railroad website for accurate maps and fares.
By Plane
If you are traveling to Stony Brook by plane, the nearest airport in Long Island is The Long Island MacArthur Airport in Islip. It is located 16 miles from
campus. The New York City airports (JFK, La Guadia and Newark) are about 50 miles from campus. The Port
