Graduate Student's research receives support from the United Nations
August, 2007
Graduate student Donghwan Kim is working with Professor Mark Montgomery on studies of urban poverty and health in developing countries. This research, supported by UN-Habitat (Nairobi), explores whether urban poverty is concentrated in slums (as so often assumed) or is distributed more widely across city neighborhoods. Kim and Montgomery are also examining multi-dimensional measures of poverty, with an initial focus on the differences between consumption poverty and poverty as indexed by lack of access to public services. Both issues have a bearing on the design and targeting of urban poverty alleviation programs. Kim's research is funded by an award from UN-Habitat for the Fall 2007 period.
