English Department Faculty

Andrew Newman did his graduate work at the University of Chicago (M.A. in Comparative Literature) and at the University of California, Irvine, were he earned a PhD in English with a specialization in early American literature. Before coming to Stony Brook in Fall 2005, he held a 1-year Andrew W. Mellon Postdoctoral Fellowship in the Humanities at the University of Southern California. His current book project, with the working title The Indian Walk and the Paper Trail: Natives, Colonists, Communication and Memory, is a study of a series of controversies in the shared histories of Native Americans and settlers in the colonial mid-Atlantic region.
