Stony Brook LSAMP Program

Overview:
Stony Brook LSAMP has been highly successful at helping students get bachelors degrees in STEM majors. Our students have gone on to achieve engineering and research positions in industry at companies such as Symbol Technology, Pratt and Whitney, Mitre Corp, Computer Associates, Paine Weber, Verizon and Morgan Stanley. Our students who have chosen to go to graduate school are scattered across the country and studying at other top schools such as Cornell, Harvard, California Institute of Technology, Columbia, Georgia Institute of Technology, and University of Pennsylvania. Our guiding philosophy is to help our students achieve their goals.

Selection Criteria:

  • Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident
  • Must have been accepted into admission at Stony Brook University
  • Must have an ultimate goal of obtaining a bachelor’s degree in science, technology, engineering or mathematics ( a student may start his/her college work in a community college or another four year college or university)
  • Must be African American, Latino/Hispanic, Native American, Hawaiian Native, Alaskan Native or Native Pacific Islander (Polynesian or Micronesian)
  • Must participate in LSAMP activities (LSAMP is not funded to provide support for students majoring in medicine or the health sciences)

Support Services:

  • Scholarship/stipend support (pending continued funding) for select freshman and transfer students
  • Cooperative
