The Program

The Stony Brook Teaching Training program in Foreign Languages offers three options:

Option 1: At the undergraduate level: students will enroll in the program when they have completed at least one 300-level language course, and will be admitted if their GPA is 2.75 or higher. Students must complete at least 36 credits in the content language, and all education courses, including student teaching, as required New York State SED. This option will allow students to obtain an initial certification, and they are required to complete an MA degree within 5 years thereafter.

Option 2: 5-year BA/MAT - Students may opt for a combined BA and MAT degree. Students wishing to follow this option, will be admitted into the program in their junior year if they have a GPA of 3.00 or higher. Education courses will begin at the undergraduate level and be completed at the graduate level. Students will receive their BA and MAT upon completion of the program. For more details, consult the director of the program.

Option 3: MAT - For students who already have a BA or equivalent and wish to obtain Teaching Certification. For more information, consult the director of the program.
