Gioacchino Balducci Lecturer in Italian Studies Doctorate in Lingue e Civiltà Orientali, Istituto Universitario Orientale, Naples MA in Cinema Studies, New York University

Balducci taught film production and made a number of short films among which was an NYU student film award winner The filmmaker at home.  Balducci had the distinction of being appointed as uditore for six months at the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia, Cinecittà, Rome. A member of the faculty of Bowling Green State University for a number of years, he taught Italian language and Literature, Arabic and Italian cinema. He participated as panelist and juror at Pesaro Film Festival in Italy. During his tenure of Director of Film Studies Program at BGSU, he organized the Director’s International Week, an annual event,  that hosted notable directors such as Bertrand Tavernier, Arthur Miller, Norman Jewison and John  Frankenheimer. 

Balducci has collaborated on several major projects with Mario Mattia Giorgetti,  stage director and editor of Sipario.International with his wife, Carolyn Balducci, an award-winning author of books, plays and screenplays. The Balduccis’ collaborations include adaptations of a series of contemporary Italian plays.among which Carlo Terron’s TRIAL OF THE INNOCENTS (performed, NYC, 1997,  Sylvia &Danny Kaye Theatre; published, Sipario Internazionale, Milano)Glauco Di Salle’s EASY PREY  (Equity production at Lamb’s Theatre, NYC, 1998),Carlo Terron’s ARSENIC TONIGHT (performed, NYC, 1996, Miranda Theatre.David Turoldo’s DEATH IS AFRAID (performed, Waverly Theatre, NYC, 1995)

Events at Stony Brook Universities:

TRIBUTE TO FELLINI (January 2004) in collaboration with the Guggenhein Museum and the NEW ITALIAN CINEMA FESTIVAL (Novemebr 12 and 13, 2004) in collaboration with N.I.C.E, (New Italian Cinema Events) Balducci has been the recipient of external grants from the Town of Brookhaven and from the Film Office of the Suffolk County. Balducci ‘s future projects include: setting up an Italian Theatre workshop at Stony Brook, and the organization of an International Conference on the Arab-Norman Culture in Sicily in  collaboration with the Center of Middle Eastern Studies at the University of Michigan.
