Students who have chosen a major in a departmental undergraduate program may engage in a research project provided they maintain an overall GPA of 3.0 or higher through their junior year. Students who earn a grade of A or A- in the designated Honors Project course (FRN 495, ITL 495, GER 447) will graduate with honors. To be eligible to participate in the honors program, departmental majors must have an overall average of 3.0 and an average of 3.5 in their major through the junior year. An eligible student wishing to write a research senior thesis must find a faculty member of the department to act as thesis advisor. The student, with the approval of this advisor, must submit a proposal of a project in writing to the department. Deadline for submission of the proposal is April 30 for the Spring semester, and November 30 for the Fall semester. Selection of candidate and topics is made by a committee of the department. Students selected for the program must enroll in one of the following courses: ITL 495, FRN 495, GER 447, for the semester in which the thesis is written. The thesis is evaluated by the thesis advisor, another member of the program faculty, and a reader from outside the department.
