POSTBACCALAUREATE PREMEDICAL STUDIES

In brief: If a student already has a bachelor's degree and then decides to take pre-medical, predental, or pre-veterinary classes, that student is usually called a "postbacc." The program the student studies in is called a "postbaccalaureate" program. ("postbaccalaureate" is just a fancy way of saying after a bachelor's degree has been earned).

This year, to better serve our postbaccalaureate students, Stony Brook's School of Professional Development has upgraded our postbaccalaureate program.

Applications for Stony Brook's program are now competitive, and there are application deadlines. Enrollment in the program is limited.

Some students look for enrichment programs--work beyond the basic requirements. The reason for studying in an enrichment program is to repair damage to your transcript or increase your chances of getting into medical school, often both. Some students study in Stony Brook's Master's in Physiology Program in order to strengthen their academic records for medical school.
