RAMÓN E. FERNÁNDEZ
BA, SUNY Stony Brook
I graduated from Stony Brook with a BA and BS in Spanish and Mathematics. In my discipline I am concerned with literary theories and contemporary Latin American Literature and Culture. I would like to explore the current literary movements emerging in the Dominican Republic. One of my major interests is to inquire in current interdisciplinary pedagogy. I am looking forward to exploring and theorizing the link among the human, social and hard sciences.

My dissertation examines the ways that masculinity and illness exert pressures and influences on bodies, and how this process becomes a larger metaphor for national and societal health. I'm particularly interested in the portayal of illnesses in recent Spanish cinema, specifically in the films of Agustí Villaronga and in the many bodies of Javier Bardem. I am also affiliated with the Women's & Gender Studies Program.
