Foreign Maps in Series

Foreign maps in series are filed by Library of Congress classification number after the foreign sheet maps . Each series usually has its own index, which is filed in the first drawer of the maps of that series.

Coverage of foreign areas is uneven. The library has detailed topographic coverage for Western Europe, Canada, Mexico, Japan, and some other areas. When detailed maps are not available for a particular area, check the Map of the World at a 1:1,000,000 scale (filed with other series covering the entire world at the beginning of the foreign maps in series) or the 1:500,000 scale Tactical Pilotage Charts (TPCs) in the white file cabinets on the wall behind and to the right of the reference desk (see map of the map collection ).
