 Through courses, taught at the Living Learning Center and campus wide,  and informal interactions with faculty and other students, the Interdisciplinary Arts minor (department code LIA) will provide you with an interdisciplinary and collaborative perspective of the fine and performing arts, and is designed to explore the factors that unify the arts in modern culture and society.

The minor requires 22 credits, all completed with a letter grade of C or higher.

You do not have to live in the Living Learning Center to minor in Interdisciplinary Arts. However if you are a residential student, we encourage you to do so.

 The course requirements are summarized below. For a detailed description of the requirements, refer to the SUNY Stony Brook Undergraduate Bulletin.

 

 ·         LIA 101, Introduction to the Interdisciplinary Arts

·         LIA 102, Opportunities in the Arts

·         LIA/THR 401 Senior Seminar

·      Six credits each in two of:

-         Art History and Criticism/ Studio Art

-         Music

-         Theater Arts/Dance

·         Three credits chosen from:

-         ARH 102, Art in Culture, ca. 1400 A.D. to Postmodernism

-         PHI 110, Arts and Ideas

-         PHI 264, Philosophy and the Arts

-         SOC 351, Sociology of the Arts

-         THR 110 Public Speaking

 

You will benefit from the interdisciplinary nature of a Living Learning Center, which engenders cooperation and reciprocity among students with diverse talents and backgrounds.  Peer advising, tutoring and college skills training are provided to all Living Learning Center students.

Students in the Interdisciplinary Arts Living Learning Center have been involved in

·         Organizing and running the Shirley Strum Kenny Student Arts Festival

·         Open mike night

·         Workshops given by arts professionals

·         Coffee House

·         Theatrical productions such as “Circus of Lifestyles,” presented as part of Campus Diversity week
