Proctored Math Assessment

Yes, I have taken a college-level pre-calc or calculus class: If you have completed a pre-calculus or calculus college-level course with a grade of C or better, OR earned at least a 4 or 5 on an AP calculus exam, you are not required to take the proctored math assessment. Please submit your official transcript or AP scores to: Transfer Office, 134 Administration Bldg., Stony Brook University, Stony Brook, NY 11794-1909, or bring a copy with you to your Orientation day (as well as a math course description and syllabus) so it can be recorded. Otherwise, you will NOT be able to register for math or science-related classes at Orientation.

Important Note: Statistics is NOT a calculus-based course, and while many statistics classes will meet Stony Brook’s general education math requirement (called DEC C), it does not fulfill the calculus requirement for science-related majors. Business calculus and many “calculus for life sciences” courses do not meet Stony Brook’s calculus requirement for sciences, either. If this applies to you, please take the proctored math assessment prior to your Orientation. If you feel you could score better than your transfer equivalent course, we RECOMMEND you take the proctored math assessment prior to your Orientation. A higher score on the assessment will potentially allow you to enroll in a higher-level math course. See the details that follow on how to sign up and take the proctored math assessment.
