At the Crossroads of Study and Discovery

The CMM/BLL has an ideal location on the Stony Brook campus. It is situated at the crossroads of the research and training facilities for the School of Medicine, the College of Engineering and Applied Sciences, and the College of Arts and Sciences. The CMM has resident research faculty who are members of the Departments of Medicine, Pathology, Pharmacological Sciences, and Physiology and Biophysics in the School of Medicine; and who are members of the Departments of Chemistry, Molecular Biochemistry and Cell Biology, and Neurobiology and Behavior in the College of Arts and Sciences.

The integration of faculty from across the Stony Brook campus provides a critical concentration of expertise for exploring new frontiers in the biomedical sciences.

The University campus, with its new CMM/BLL, is located between Brookhaven National Laboratory and Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory. Together, these institutions form a dynamic center for research and education.

Brookhaven National Laboratory, managed by Stony Brook in partnership with Battelle Memorial Institute, has world-class facilities for x-crystallography. Researchers in the Center for Structural Biology use the high intensity x-ray beamlines available there to determine the molecular structures of macromolecules. The imaging capabilities at Brookhaven National Laboratory are also invaluable for high contrast mammograms. It is also the only site in the world currently using Boron- Neutron-Capture Therapy for the treatment of cancer.

Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory has world-renowned research programs in cancer biology, neurobiology and plant genetics. With several shared graduate programs— including Genetics, Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, and Neurobiology—close interactions exist in both research and education.
