The State University of New York at Stony Brook, forty-five minutes from New York City on the picturesque coastline of Long Island's North Shore, was ranked second among public research universities in the first quantitative national assessment of per capita faculty research productivity. On behalf of the U.S. Department of Energy the campus is co-manager of Brookhaven National Laboratory. As one of ten research-intensive universities to receive the first National Science Foundation Recognition Awards for Integration of Research and Education,Stony Brook is at the forefront in preparing our nation's next generation of scientific leaders.
