Stony Brook proudly announces the initiation of a new and innovative graduate exchange program.  With the aid of professors and students, Stony Brook has begun a unique international interchange that further distinguishes the philosophy program at Stony Brook from every other program in North America. The philosophy departments of SUNY at Stony Brook and Emory University have combined with the German universities at Marburg and Wuppertal to create an advanced graduate philosophy collegium that will involve not only an international exchange of selected graduate students (after their third year) but also an exchange of faculty and co-taught advanced seminars.

But Stony Brook's interest in bridging the United States with the Continent does not stop there.

For students with special interests in French thought, Stony Brook has long supported a Paris Program Abroad, providing opportunities to study with the leading figures in current French philosophy.

In addition, there has been a long-standing exchange of graduate students between the philosophy departments of the universities of Stony Brook and Tübingen, making available the special strengths of this outstanding German University.  Stony Brook also maintains extended relationships with the Universities at Köln and at Bochum.  Collectively, these programs abroad mean that the resources of the Kant, Hegel and Husserl Archives are accessible to Stony Brook students during their time in Germany,

Additional Opportunities:

In addition to these departmentally supported programs, our graduate students have been exceptionally successful in winning fellowships from the DAAD and the Chateaubriand.  These fellowship allow students to study at any French or German universities that match their study and research interests.

The combination of departmentally based and externally funded fellowships assures our graduate students access to areas of research, seminars, archives and libraries that supplement the unique and already strong educational formation received in the doctoral program here at Stony Brook.  For those working in Continental Philosophy, this configuration is unmatched by any other university in North America.

Additional information on these exchanges and fellowship opportunities can be procured from the Director of the Graduate Programs.
