The principal mission of the University Police Department at Stony Brook University is to work with all members of the campus community to preserve life, maintain human rights, protect property, and promote individual responsibility and community commitment.

University communities are unique. They have a long and valued tradition of being open communities where research, teaching and human development are exercised with a maximum degree of freedom of expression and inquiry and the least amount of restriction. This concept, makes the protection of our University Community a difficult and challenging assignment.

We, the members of the University Police Department, value: integrity, excellence, accountability, cooperation, problem solving, and loyalty. Our values are characteristics of worth. They are the foundation upon which our policies, goals and operations are built.

In order to fulfill our mission, we need the support of our students, faculty, staff, patients, visitors, elected representatives, and the criminal justice system.

This Community Belongs to All of Us!
