The Stony Brook Southampton MFA in Writing and Literature is pleased to announce the Manhattan Track for talented writers seeking advanced training in fiction, poetry, creative nonfiction, essay, playwriting, screenwriting, and memoir. Students accepted into the program may earn an MFA degree by combining coursework at the Manhattan facility during fall and spring terms, and at the Southampton campus during summer by participating in the prestigious Southampton Writers Conferences.

To accommodate our diverse community of writers, we offer flexible course schedules and innovative course design, including weekend intensives, independent study, and regular evening workshops. Members of the MFA program also have an opportunity to receive training in publishing and editing by working on our highly regarded journal The Southampton Review. In Manhattan as in Southampton, our faculty members are known not only for their writing, but also for their careful attention to the work of our students.

We also invite applications from qualified writers who wish to participate as non-matriculated students. Current students in our program display a range of interests and experience; they include recent college graduates, post-career professionals, working journalists, secondary school teachers, editors, and professors seeking to make a transition from scholarly to creative writing. We welcome all writers who seek instruction that is friendly, rigorous, professionally useful, and intellectually challenging.
