The Department of Sociology, in the College of Arts and Sciences, offers a terminal master's degree which must be completed in three years.

The Graduate School
Admission to the Master's Program.
For admission to graduate study in sociology, the following, in addition to the minimumGraduate School requirements, are normally required:
A. A bachelor's degree or its equivalent, as attested to by transcripts of previousacademic work.
B. Undergraduate statistics course (suggested but not required) .
C. Undergraduate grade point average of 3.0 or above.
D. Satisfactory results on the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) General Test.
International students, in addition to taking the GRE, must take the TOEFL exam andreceive a score of 550 or better to be considered for admission.
E. Satisfactory recommendations from former instructors.
F. Acceptance by both the Department of Sociology and the Graduate School.
Applications must be submitted to the Department by January 15th of each year. Admissions are for the Fall semester only. There are no Spring Admissions. Applications should be submitted online through the graduate school website: The Graduate School

Requirements for the Master's Degree in Sociology
To receive the M.A. a student must complete:
1. Two consecutive semesters of full-time study, achieving a 3.0 grade point averagefor 30 hours of graduate work.
2. A master's thesis.
