Computer Training Certificate Programs

SPD currently offers six computer training certificate programs. Descriptions for each program are listed below. Course descriptions can be found at SPD Computer Courses.


From Windows to Web: The Essentials of Personal Computing
NCE 707 • 13 sessions • Fee: $1,499
This comprehensive program serves as a broad-based introduction to using a personal computer. Starting from a foundation in Microsoft Windows and exploring the basics of Word, using e-mail, navigating the Internet, learning about web design, and concluding with use of a digital camera, this program covers all you need to know to get you started. Students who successfully complete this 13-session program will earn certificates in both "Introduction to Computers" and "Microsoft Web Design".

PC Specialist Certificate Program
NCE 310 • 108 hours • Fee: $1,599
Comprehensive program that incorporates all Microsoft Office software application courses.

Courses include: Introduction to Microsoft Word, Advanced Microsoft Word: Module I, Module II, Module III and Module IV, Introduction to Microsoft Excel, Advanced Microsoft Excel: Module I and II, Managing Data with Access, Advanced Access and Creating Dynamic Presentations with PowerPoint.

A certificate is awarded upon successful completion of the program. The fee for the program reflects a 15% discount off registering for the courses individually. To receive the discount, students must register for all courses at the same time. Discounts cannot be applied retroactively.

Microsoft Web Design Certificate
NCE 325 • 36 Hours • Fee: $599
This four-course introductory web design program focuses on Microsoft applications. The curriculum is as follows: Designing a Website with Microsoft Publisher, Advanced Web Page Design and Site Management with FrontPage, Creating Digital Images for Web Design, and the Web Design Project. A certificate is awarded upon successful completion of the program. The fee for the program reflects a 15% discount off registering for the courses individually. To receive the discount, students must register for all courses at the same time. Discounts cannot be applied retroactively.
Prerequisite: Introduction to Windows or the basic computing skills as described in our self-test.

Macromedia Web Design Certificate
NCE 330 • 24 sessions/72 Hours • Fee: $1,069
This is an advanced certificate program for experienced web users who want to learn the tools that web professionals use. The program incorporates the following Macromedia products: Dreamweaver (the industry-standard HTML design program), Fireworks (for web graphics and javascript buttons), and Flash (to create eye-catching animations). The price for this certificate reflects a 15% discount off individual class prices. To receive the discount, students must register for all courses at the same time. Discounts cannot be applied retroactively.
Prerequisite: Introduction to Windows or the basic computing skills as described in our self-test and Introduction to the Internet or equivalent level of knowledge.

Microsoft Excel Certificate
NCE 314.4 • 27 hours • Fee: $409
Three course program includes: Introduction to Microsoft Excel, Advanced Microsoft Excel: Module I and Module II. A certificate is awarded upon successful completion of the program. Microsoft Access Certificate
NCE 317.2 • 27 Hours • Fee: $399
Two course program includes: Managing Data with Access and Advanced Acces. A certificate is awarded upon successful completion of the program. The fee for the program reflects a 15% discount off registering for the courses individually. To receive the discount, students must register for all courses at the same time. Discounts cannot be applied retroactively.

Prerequisite: Introduction to Windows or the basic computing skills as described in our self-test.

"Computer Keys" Club

Students enrolled in a certificate program are eligible to join the “Computer Keys” club. To qualify for membership, one must complete all the required courses within a one year period.

If a student then needs to brush up or refresh his or her knowledge, he or she may retake the course at no cost within a one year period from the date of completion on a space-available basis.

Students must indicate their decision to enroll in “Computer Keys” at the time of course registration.
