SPD Fall 2006 Academic Calendar

This calendar addresses SPD students only. It is not for undergraduates or for students matriculated in the Graduate School or HSC. This calendar was accurate as of 4/11/06. It is subject to changes and updates.

September

Sept. 6, Wed. First day of Mon. - Fri. classes on-campus.

Late registration begins; a $40 late fee applies to all students who are not enrolled in at least one course before Sept. 6.

Sept. 8, Fri. Senior Citizen Auditing Program registration. SBS Building, Room S-102, 10:00 am - 2:00 pm. Call 631.632.7063 for more information.

Sept. 9, Sat. First day of Saturday classes. Saturday classes 'in session.'

Sept. 11, Mon. First day of SPD online/EEP courses.

Sept. 12, Tues. Last day to drop a class or withdraw from the University "without tuition liability." Dropping/withdrawing from classes must be done via the SOLAR System. (SPD students are able to drop to zero credits/units via SOLAR.)

Sept. 13, Wed. Last day to add SPD online/EEP nine-week classes. Last day of waitlist operation for SPD online/EEP courses.

Reminder: Students who place themselves on a waitlist and change their intent to enroll, MUST DROP themselves from the waitlist. If students are enrolled from the waitlist, students are responsible for any Tuition Liability incurred.

Sept. 19, Tues. Last day to drop or withdraw from the University without a "W" (withdraw) recorded on student's record. After this date, SPD students may continue to withdraw using the SOLAR System until Nov. 7; a "W" (withdraw) will be recorded. (NOTE: SPD Students MUST withdraw themselves using SOLAR; petitions will not be accepted until after the Nov. 7 deadline.)

Last day to swap courses "without a petition." If student reduces credit load, tuition liability will apply.

Sept. 20, Wed., Close of Business. Deadline for Fall degree and certificate candidates to apply for graduation. SPD students MUST apply for graduation whether they plan to attend Commencement ceremonies or not. If a student does not apply for graduation, the degree or certificate will NOT be conferred.

Graduation applications received by SPD after the published deadline will not be evaluated until all other candidates for graduation have been processed. This may result in a significant delay.

Sept. 20-26, Wed.-Tues. For swaps between these dates, SPD students must petition the School of Professional Development (SPD). If student reduces credit load after Sept. 19, tuition liability will apply. (A record of "W" will be applied to the student's record. NO petitions for swapping will be processed after Sept. 26.)

Sept. 23-24, Sat. and Sun. Rosh Hashanah (Observed). NO Saturday classes in session.

Sept. 26, Tues. Last day to add classes (excluding SPD online/EEP nine-week courses; see Sept. 13 entry). End of late registration.

Last day to drop/withdraw from SPD online/EEP courses. (All other SPD courses, see Nov. 7 entry.) "W"/Withdraw will be recorded. Tuition Liability remains applicable.

October

Oct. 2, Mon. Yom Kippur (Observed) - NO classes in session.

November

Nov. 7, Tues. Last day for removal of "I"/Incomplete grades from the Spring and Summer terms. After this date, all "I"/Incompletes will revert to "I/F". The "F" is then calculated into the student's GPA.

Last day to drop/withdraw from one or all courses (excluding SPD online/EEP courses); “W” will be recorded. Petition is NOT required. Student may drop/withdraw from all courses on the SOLAR System. See Tuition Liability schedule. After this date, students must petition to withdraw.

Nov. 12, Sun. Last day of SPD online/EEP courses.

Nov.13, Mon. (Tentative; subject to change). Advance registration tentatively set to begin for Winter and Spring 2007 terms. Go to website for enrollment schedule: http://www.stonybrook.edu/registrar/schedules.htm. Course listings and Enrollment Appointment information will be posted on the SPD website prior to registration.

Nov. 23-26, Thurs.-Sun. Thanksgiving Break. NO classes in session.

December

Dec. 13, Wed., Correction Day. Make up for 10/02/06 class session. Classes follow a MONDAY schedule.

Dec. 15, Fri. Last day of class for any courses that are held Mon. through Fri. (includes 14-week Electronic Extension Program classes, but not Saturday classes; see Dec. 16 entry).

Dec. 16, Sat. Last day of SPD's Saturday classes.

Dec. 17, Sun. University Graduation Ceremony. Master’s and Bachelor’s degrees and Advanced Graduate Certificates awarded.

Dec 18-22, Mon-Fri. Final Exam week. Finals held for Mon. through Fri. courses.

Dec. 23, Sat. Saturday finals held during regularly scheduled class time.

Dec. 23, Sat. End of Term; last day of Finals.
