Program Description

Building on the success of three previous years, Stony Brook University will offer its fourth Summer Study Abroad program based in Bangalore, India.

Bangalore is a high-tech city, emblem of globalization, outsourcing, and R & D home to major multinational corporations. Yet it is rooted in one of the most ancient and rich cultures of the world. It is renowned for its beautiful climate, welcoming people, cool gardens, booming arts and culture scene, and hip social life (great club scene). Earn an entire semester's worth of credits at a cost lower than if lived on campus, while taking part in a life-changing experience. Feel the excitement of India's traditional cultures at the crossroads of globalization. Interesting courses, outstanding faculty from Stony Brook and Bangalore Universities. Caring, personal attention. Samll group, opportunities to make lasting friendships.

Program Highlights

Take field trips to historic monuments, 900 year-old temples featuring an embarrassment of beauty, wildlife parks, haunting relics of bygone. Interact with Indian students, writers, artists, intellectuals, social activists, and business leaders. Enjoy rich cultural and social activities, comfortable living and learning arrangements.

Art & Architecture of India, DEC-G

Democracy and Pluralism in India, DEC-F

Social Change in Modern India, DEC-F

Experiencing Contemporary Indian Culture

 

All courses count toward Stony Brook graduation requirements.

Facilities

Air-conditioned classroom, Internet access, double occupancy rooms with attached showers, linen service, and optional laundry service; 3 gourment meals a day featuring a variety of cuisines, dedicated bus for evening trips into the city, air-conditioned bus or a/c train and excellent hotels for long distance trips.

Health Insurance

Stony Brook University offers international health insurance for those who do not have adequate coverage.

 

Eligibility

All undergraduate college students in good academic standing may apply. Language proficiency is NOT required.

 

Program and Tuition Fees

Undergraduate Tuition costs: $2172 ($181.00/credit) for NY residents; $442.00/credit for out-of-state residents

Other Costs: Airfare and administrative fee

Students must have valid passport and visa to India.

 

Scholarships and Financial Aid: The Center for India Studies offers a number of $1000 and $500 scholarships on merit and need basis. All students (including out-or-state) are eligible to apply. Application forms may be downloaded from www.stonybrook.edu/india.
