Marsha Parilla

Puerto Rican artist Marsha Parrilla, is an educator, choreographer, performer and researcher. She is currently a World Dance adjunct professor in the Department of Theater Arts at the State University of New York at Stony Brook.

 

She obtained her B.A. from the University of Puerto Rico, and received her M.A. from New York University. She has been teaching, performing and choreographing internationally since 1998. She is the Artistic Director and Founder of Danza Orgánica, a highly interactive Brooklyn based Dance Theater company that promotes interculturalism in the dance field. Her work is highly influenced by the cultures of the Caribbean, Latin America, West Africa, Europe, Southeast Asia and the United States.

 

Marsha is also in the early stages of her academic research regarding the role of neurons within the process of creating, acquiring, performing and perceiving dance.

 

Aside from Dance, Marsha enjoys traveling around the world in order to get acquainted with different cultures, and expand her perception and vision of the world. She speaks five languages, which facilitates her
journeys.
