John Gassner New Play Competition
Submissions are now being accepted for the 7th annual John Gassner New Play Competition.
The JGNPC encourages the development of new American plays through its annual playwriting contest. The contest seeks plays of any length that are both relevant and intrinsically theatrical. The contest is administered by the Stony Brook University department of Theatre Arts' Graduate Program in Dramaturgy.
THE ALBATROSS by Dennis Schebetta is the winner of the Sixth Annual John Gassner New Play Competition at Stony Brook University, Department of Theatre Arts.
THE ALBATROSS, will receive a staged reading in New York City, at the Stony Brook Manhattan campus, on April 27th. Along with the reading, there will be a panel discussion that include actress and playwright Ellen McLaughlin, and playwright Leslie Lee, among others on "Collaboration and Creating New Work".
The playwright will also receive a $200 prize.
Submission guidelines
The playwriting contest is open to American playwrights in all 50 States. The play submission period has already begun for our 2009 contest. The deadline for submissions is Friday, August 15th, 2009. Plays will not be returned.
Please send two (2) bound copies of your play, with contact information and a self-addressed-stamped, letter-size envelope (for notification) to:

The winning play will receive a $200 prize. Playwrights will be notified in March of 2010.
