sTEPHANIE Taboada

PhotoPh.D. Student

Stephanie is a chemical engineering Ph.D. student at Stony Brook University and she is currently investigating the corrosivity of different stainless steel grades under aggressive environments composed of chlorides and organic acids like oxalic acid, butyric acid, propionic acid, lactic acid, and acetic acid. The goal of the project is develop a protective coating that can be easily applied on stainless steel digester tanks, welds and other metal equipment so as to prevent corrosion. Performance evaluations in real-life conditions will also be carried out. This study ties in well with another that analyzes the biogas potential for New York State. This study involves the collection of RNG data from landfills, wastewater treatment facilities, livestock digesters, agricultural waste, and food waste in New York State. The purpose of the study is to determine the amount of electricity and heat that can be produced to power urban areas and to demonstrate the feasibility of utilizing biogas instead of fossil fuels. The study also discusses current policies, transportation issues, and provides recommendations for biogas developers moving forward. Stephanie graduated with a B.E in chemical engineering from Stevens Institute of Technology in 2012 and obtained her M.S in chemical engineering from the New Jersey Institute of Technology in 2016.
